Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically, which we share with Chickens, Cats, Guinea Pigs and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I work as an environmental educator, lecturer, writer and Forest School leader at Moors Wood . I am a Master Composter and have spent the last 11 years as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council. I offer talks and run workshops and events where we talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. We also make crafts and have fun.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun. To learn more about us click on the About Compostwoman tab and remember to click on the photos to make them full size!

an update from the compostbin!

Hello there lovely friends!

I have had a rather fraught week, Compostgirl was poorly bad with the upchucks and then Compostman went into hospital for his op, supposed to be a Day case(!) but 6 pm came and went and no one had called me to say to come and collect him.....

and I spent an hour trying and failing to get through to the Hospital to find out what was going on....

A lovely friend had taken Compostgirl ( recovered enough to go back to school that day) to her house for tea, so I didn't have to worry about feeding her...so I could just keep on trying to get through to the Ward.....and Finally, at 7:10 pm I established that Compostman had been kept in overnight, but not a reason why....

So I was faced with a drive into Hereford to see him and get him some night attire etc..( was supposed to be a day case, remember!)..AND go and get Compostgirl from lovely friend's house , a task which would take about 2 hours, but only 50 minutes were left before Hospital visiting time ended...so I couldn't do both...

Fortunately LOVELY FRIEND ( bless you A!) when I phoned her said that Compostgirl could sleepover... ( cue delighted shrieks from CG!)

SO..I saw Compostman, who was VERY groggy, established he was OK-ish, sat and chatted to him and then came home and fell into ( a strangely empty) bed....

Woke up at 3 am to a TOO QUIET house..I don't like it when my loved ones are not there.....
