Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically, which we share with Chickens, Cats, Guinea Pigs and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I work as an environmental educator, lecturer, writer and Forest School leader at Moors Wood . I am a Master Composter and have spent the last 11 years as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council. I offer talks and run workshops and events where we talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. We also make crafts and have fun.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun. To learn more about us click on the About Compostwoman tab and remember to click on the photos to make them full size!

A very busy Saturday and....an Award!

An Award! Thank you Greentwinsmummy for nominating me for this! I am very pleased to get this and thank you.

I SHALL be awarding this on to other bloggers I really like, but not just now as it is a busy weekend for us here at Compost Mansions, Compostgirl is 8 today and we have been out at her school Christmas Fayre all afternoon, and were helping to set it up last night and take it all down again after it finished at 5 pm today.

I was helping with the Eco craft stall, where children could make lavender bags from scrap material squares and ribbon, or Christmas tree decorations from pine cones and ribbon or willow twig stars.

Oh and I found some treasures on the second hand book stall :-))

Compostgirl went to see Santa in his grotto and performed some carols with the rest of the school choir....then went around with her school friends and Compostman helped out in general, had a wander around, went home to shut the hens in the henhouses, and then came back for some cake and tea.

So we all had fun!

ANYWAY...we have another busy day tomorrow, Compostgirl wanted a Forest School type party in our wood with a load of her friends, so...that is what we are doing tomorrow! A fire, hot chocolate, marshmallows and popcorn made over the fire and some games in the wood...followed by sausages in rolls with onions.....

Fingers crossed the weather stays good for us!

  1. That sounds like a great way to celebrate a birthday - hope you all have fun!

  2. Good luck with the party - sounds a wonderful way to spend the day. Mmmm, marshmallows!

  3. Happy Birthday to small CG the party sounds wonderful :o)
What treasures did you find at the bookstall I wonder....!
