Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically, which we share with Chickens, Cats, Guinea Pigs and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I work as an environmental educator, lecturer, writer and Forest School leader at Moors Wood . I am a Master Composter and have spent the last 11 years as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council. I offer talks and run workshops and events where we talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. We also make crafts and have fun.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun. To learn more about us click on the About Compostwoman tab and remember to click on the photos to make them full size!

Life.....

has not been very good around here lately.

Tabitha Cat is very ill, has been in hospital at the vet's for the last 3 days and will be in there at least over the weekend, if not longer.

She came in with what seemed to be a bite wound on her leg last weekend - but despite  prompt attention from us and then prompt treatment  from our vet it has developed into a major infection. The regime of antibiotic iv drip and dressings is only just maintaining the status quo - she is not improving at all.

We are waiting for the results of tissue biopsy tests on Monday, to see where we go from here.

Tom Cat ( her brother) and Cassi (her bff) are lost without her and are wandering around, looking mournful.

So, good positive thoughts please for Tabitha

  4. Well, we only have one venemous snake in the UK - the Adder - and it was nothing like that, so we think it was rat or dog/cat BUT the continued erruption of other spots/abbcesses over the last week, where none were before, is the tricky issue....hence the biopsies...

All very worrying ....so just hoping and praying, here.

  8. Hope Tabitha stays strong and pulls through. It might be that being at a status quo means that she'll be getting ready to get better... sometimes it can take a while for the antibiotics to really kick in and get going. My Mum;s 18 year old cat had a pretty chronic infection which took 2 courses of antibiotics to fix. But he got there! Sending lots of positive vibes xx
