Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Want to work with me?

I am very happy to talk to people who have expressed an interest in The Compost Bin. As you can see  I have a wide range of readers from all over the world.

Other people seem to like what I do here - I have won an award from Garden Organic for outstanding contributions to the campaigns to promote composting or gardening in the UK, for my work on this blog and other social media sites. I have also been a finalist for the Garden Organic awards in previous years.

In addition  The Compost Bin is listed by the Dead Dinosaur PR company as one of the the UK's top 20 Gardening blogs  It also consistently appears in the Tots 100 list of blogs.

I have also been a finalist for the CIWM "Recycling Champion of the Year" in 2007 and 2009 due to my posts on here, as well as my composting activities in Real Life.

The Compost Bin is popular, widely read ( it is fed to the Omlet, NetMums. BritMums, Blotanical and MumsNet blogsites as well) and people find my musings interesting.

So...

If you want me to consider working with you, you need to have a strong green and ethical position on the issues which matter to me. Basically you need to be someone I would be happy to give my business to in Real Life. Ideally you would also be local - but ask me and I will always politely consider your request.

If I think your product, web site or service is of interest to me (or my family or wider blogging readership) I will consider writing about it. I expect to retain full editorial and copyright control over what I write and to be rewarded
for my work in some way.  In return, I will write an honest opinion of your product or service and I will disclose if I have been paid to do so, in my post.

If you are interested me writing a sponsored post on The Compost Bin then please contact me for my rates. All sponsored posts will be labelled as "paid for content" or similar wording and readers should assume that I have received some form of payment for any post labelled as such.

Please note I do not accept sponsored or guest posts which are written by other people,  as I only post my own words on my blog.

I only write reviews for products actually sent to me that I have used and I would like to keep the product after I have reviewed it.
I do not accept payment for product reviews because I believe that this can lead to biased reviews. I am happy to consider "loan" item reviews under certain circumstances.

I am always delighted to be invited to promotional events  but I would like some travel expenses to be offered.  I am based in rural Herefordshire but am close to a good rail network - so am able to get to London for lunchtime appointments by train.

I am available to give talks on any or all of the things I blog about - and I have other areas of expertise which I would consider talking about. Please contact me for more details.

I am happy to run a competition on my blog for you, if you have a prize to offer which I think my readers would like. Ethical considerations, again, apply.

But please, contact me to discuss your requirements, as I am always willing to try to help.

  1. Hello,
I was browsing and found your site - I got quite distracted from my work!
I wonder if you would let me copy one or two photos please to use in my newsletter for Naturally Good Food? I was looking for a pic showing growing herbs to go alongside our bulk organic herbs and spices and came across your Ryton ones.
    with best wishes
