Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Muntjac doe, again, again

The muntjac doe is a creature of habit, it seems! Back out the front of the house tonight , same time, same behaviour!

Tonight, I was able to come out of the house and watch her from the front patio so a lot closer than before ( ~ 20 feet away) , previously have photographed her through the kitchen window and she scarped if we went outside or even looked at her from the doorway. Last night she let me watch her from the open doorway.

She just looked up at me a few times tonight, and then carried on grazing.

💕 Am a lot in love.

Muntjac doe

Muntjac doe photos, again 😊

She was quite happy for me to open the door and look at her, me less than 30 ft away
She has full udders ( she did a very elegant head scratch with a hind leg, so I could see) , so there is at least one fawn nearby.

So happy! ( even if my veg garden is at risk).

Deer, deer, and Bees.

So the day before yesterday we had a bee swarm decide to make a home in one of our gables, then yesterday we had a muntjac in the garden.

It's all go, here!
