Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Woo hoo!

I have just got this from my Forest School tutor, the lovely A........

re: your Forest School Practitioner OCN Level 3 portfolio. All your work has now been marked and has been marked as a PASS (subject to External Verification which is yet to be carried out). As soon as the EV has been carried out (at the end of this month) and supposing that all files sampled are satisfactory I will be able to apply ...........for certification.

woo hoo!

I have PASSED!

oh joy! I am in the throes of applying for various jobs/self employed opportunities....so being able to quote this is SO helpful!

note...there is no grading with OCN apparently..you either pass or fail....

  1. Congratulations from us both. Well done you. Now you can go out and conquer the world - or at least your little patch of it. LOL

It means I can get insurence to run my courses in my wood....and apply for work with confidence that I will be treated "seriously"

more than anything else, THAT is what I am so happy about!

  3. Congratulations :)

  4. (((HUGS))) and massive congratulations to you. You've done so well and I hope you feel proud of your achievement.

May you have many years of joy and happiness sharing information about things you are passionate about.

    Much love and respect,
    Mrs G x

  5. Congratulations, a great achievement....well done.

  9. Well done, I am so pleased for you. Good luck with the school :)

  10. Hurrah! Well done! Great news!

  11. H-U-G-E CONGRATULATIONS CW!!! You so deserve to pass after all your hard work....
May it bring you much happiness and many successes in everything you do!!
    With Love, Jane xxxxx

  12. Congratulations - good luck with the applications.

  13. Clearly congratulations are in order. That must be a relief. Well deserved I'm sure but if you are like me there is much self doubt.

Being new to your blog - you mention courses in your wood. I was wondering what these are. My Broadband is being useless today and isn't fully loading so you may well say in a bit on the right hand side of the screen, but I can't see anything at the moment.

PS Good tips on the parsnip front. I'm growing them for the first time this year and feared I was a bit late sowing them. Maybe not. I'll give them a whirl anyway.

  14. Well done, that is great news. Seeing as you've passed you will be qualified for me to ask this, what is a Forestry School Tutor? I'm keep hearing bits about it through work but I'm really not sure what it is.

  15. Well done on the whatsit. Hints & tips are great. Thanks

  16. Happy Happy chicken dance! This is such great news.

  17. Congratulations, well done - not just passing, but passing with such high marks :-)

  18. Congratulations CW! That's fantastic news and so well deserved!

  20. Hi! Congratulations! Well Done!!

I've just been browsing through your blog ... I love all the "growing" information. And ... I was so pleased to see you using paper rolls at "starters". I've just learned about doing that and will be trying it for the first time this year with all of my herbs. Your pictures helped a lot! I'll probably cut them down a bit.

I enjoyed my visit here! Thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas.
