Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

COVID, again.

Oh dear, I've caught COVID, again.

Presumably from the Graduation ceremony last week.

Feel pretty awful, tbh.

Hope Compostman and Compostgirl dont have it 🤞

Graduation!

Today we went to Compostgirl's graduation.

So very, very proud of her, she started at Uni in Oct 2019, had 1 and a 1/2 terms of normal Uni life, and then COVID came on 20th March and I had to drive and retrieve her before Lockdown 1 started.

Her three years at Uni have been very disrupted and distressing, she had mainly on line learning, was compelled to stay in her room mostly, was restricted both socially and educationally.

She's also paid out a lot of money (and acquired a lot of Student loan!) for a much poorer University "experience" than what they were all told they would have.

It has been a very scary time for us all, but I feel so very sorry for children and young adults,  the most.

Her tranche of Students got no recompense for the lack of face to face tuition, and the huge limitations the University placed on their movements.

I'm not sure how it could have been handled better, under the circumstances, but I do think the younger generation has been very poorly served.

Anyway, we were allowed to attend her Graduation, celebrated it with many photos and  a meal out (with cocktails! )

Before we left Compost girl at her Uni flat, to celebrate some more with her friends.
