Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Wales day 4

Met office got the forecast spot on today.

Wet, wetter, wettest.

Went to see Jane and Pat, drove for an hour through rain and low cloud to get to their farm.

Had a great couple of hours drinking tea and catching up.

Left lovely friends, rain had stopped, so risked going back to hostel via Gors Fawr stone circle.

Sunshine! And no more rain. But it was v v soggy underfoot.

Still, all worth it .

Wales day 3

Good day today, with fine weather, after a wild and wet night.

To Fishguard for a watch of the ferry terminal and the seagulls.

Newport beach for a paddle and poking around in rock pools.

Then Castell Henllys.

Excellent chat with the two archaeology team members on duty in the Chieftain round house.

Weirdly, there was a couple in there, who turned out to be from Ledbury, then they went away and another totally unrelated couple came in, they, too came from Ledbury!

Finally, to Pentre Ifan, where I had the place all to myself. Bliss.

Wales day 2

A very short break in the rain and overcast gloom. Still lovely to be here in Trefin.

Carreg Sampson chambered cairn, with lovely sea in the background.

Trip to Wales

Long day today driving across Wales.

Hunting for a Stone Circle , Carn Llechart, in horizontal rain. I found some of it, but then the weather closed in and I abandoned my search

I then drove through Mynydd y Betws , a spectacular   huge windfarm

Road over the top of Betws Mynydd was v v interesting. At one point I was driving up a hill, with only the tips of the turbine blades just visible over the top of the hill. Surreal.

Then arriving at Newgale to watch the Sun set, over the sea.

Then on to The Old School House at Trefin

Good to be back in Wales.

Stayed last night at the Dragon in Crickhowell, excellent place to stay, really good food (and very gluten friendly for me!) but with a VERY narrow entry to the car park!

Major groundworks pts 2, 3 and 4.

More earthmoving and diggering.

Flattening the area between the Wood and the pool, this making the pool a bit smaller (it's totally dry at the moment, being a seasonal rain filled pool)

This work went on end of August through to mid September.

Wales day 5, then homeward bound

Came home from Wales on Saturday, after some time spent at a couple of glorious Pembrokeshire beaches.

First time I've actually gone on the beach at Newgale! It's somewhere I always drive through on my way to St David's, or Trefin, so this time I decided to take the coast road back and explore a bit.

I ate my packed lunch looking out on this glorious view.

Of course the weather turned beautiful, the day I went home.

Ah well, I had a much needed break.

Post COVID I'm still rather weak , but being in Wales, as always made me feel much better!
