Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Me time

Thank you for the supportive comments - much appreciated!

Today I have made soap, made healing balms, made hand lotion, made pink lip gloss.  Made DD happier (not really sure how, but am grateful for small mercies) . Did the CRB paperwork and document proof stuff, which entailed a drive by me to Hereford to prove that I am, who I say I am. .

Have drunk some wine, posted on a specialist forum for some specialist help.

And coughed. A lot.

  1. Sorry for the boring, practical comment, but has compost an thought about seeing a yogi? Yoga is really good for realigning the spine and helping with back pain. It strengthens the muscles that are often the problem in back pain. I injured my back in my preteens (I'm now 24) and yoga really helped me strengthen my back, but it only works if I do it regularly (when I stop the muscles go weak again).

Yoga classes can be expensive, but I wouldnt recommend starting any yoga without speaking to an expert about the back pain first. If he started, he could start doing it by himself once he knows what poses he can do safely.

Anyway, I thought I'd pass on that little bit of wisdom in case it helps. Back pain can be so debillitating, and the last thing anyone wants to do is exercise, even though it often helps.

I hope you're feeling better too. I have no advice for chest infections!

  2. Hello Millie and thank you for the comment

Compostman does various back exercises to keep his muscles strong for the same reasons as you said.

He has been to see the Chiro again, but it is a long standing injury and, at nearly 60, things don't heal up as well as they used to!
