Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Jubilee Sunday at Compost Mansions

Bloomin Heck it is STILL raining here! Has been since yesterday evening!  It MUST be a holiday in the UK lol

Apart from hen, polytunnel, cat and guinea pig duties, we have been having a peaceful day resting, reading and playing on her DSi ( Compostgirl) , fettling JCB's ( Compostman) crochet, sewing and reading (Compostwoman) and all of us eating and watching bits of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Thames Pagent - not particularly monarchist here - indeed some of us* are Republicans-   BUT the ships, barges, boats etc were amazing and I was really impressed by "Gloriana" the lead rowing barge.

After a lovely meal we all then watched the first 2 episodes of last years BBC adaptation of Just William, and Compostman and I watched various Disco themed proggrammes later on, on BBC   ( about Donna Summer and the History of Disco)

Slightly worried ( in a sort of good way lol) that, yet again, I know all the words to all the songs -

Question - why does my brain not explode with all the rock, pop, disco, folk, classical, poetry, plays etc I seeem to be able to spout at a moments notice? Why, when I didn't learn them on purpose?

Especially when I can't remember if I have shut the polytunnel door or not ...!

Isn't the human brain a wonderful thing?
( *that would be me, then!)

  1. It's not unusual to love pageantry. Think how much fuss the French make over English royalty!
