Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Last week in review - 5 good things

As promised I am going to have a go at reinstating my "five good things" posts - so here it is for the last week

  • We have enough food for all the family ( furry, feathery and human) to last for several weeks, even if it does snow like mad and stop us getting out.
  • The hens have started to lay again  - hurrah! fresh eggs.
  • We are all reasonably healthy - human, furry and feathery.
  • The days are lengthening :-)
  • It is time to start planting for the 2013 growing season :-) I am sorting through seed packets and awaiting deliveries :-)
What are your 5 good things ?

  1. How lovely to hear such positive things.

  2. I'm doing five things a day as a gratitude journal on a page of my blog.Even over the few weeks I have been doing it I enjoy reading back on past days and remembering the small things that were good on those days.It really does help you to feel more positive and appreciate what you have.
    I love your list :)

  3. Here's mine

    1. Having a healthy family I think the echinacea might be working!

    2. Having a good run of sales on eggs :) which meant the monthly feed bill was more than covered

    3. Writing a weekly meal plan and sticking to it

    4.Planning and ordering my orchard

5.Letting my ex battery hens out of the covered run for the first time

  4. Hello all!

all these good things are well worth blogging about and celebrating :-)
