Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Evening wind down

I am drinking tea, catching up with the emails and thinking about when to grab the bathroom to have a shower - with an 13 yr old daughter it gets harder to grab a slot !

Compostman is lighting the woodburner, so I will shortly go and sit in front of the woodburner with a glass of wine and my crochet- I am currently doing a red dishcloth, very relaxing as I can switch off my whirring thoughts because I have to count what I am doing. A bit like counting sheeep, but more productive!

Call The Midwife later - looks to be a bit sad :(

  1. I have done the same thing! But only I crochet. After a busy day, it is nice to sit and relax with a hook, and a ball of yarn.

I hope you kitty is feeling better!

  2. Knitting a dish cloth in front of a woodburner, sounds wonderful to me. I just wish I could knit and had a woodburner. Dream :)

  3. That's something I want to do, knit dishcloths, well I think I'll crochet mine.

First I have to get the right sort of yarn, then I'll be off.
