Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Facebook app I like Gardening for Champions/The Messy Garden

I have just shared a gardening tip on a Facebook app I like. These are Facebook pages so you need to be "on" Facebook to see them -

Gardening For Champions

The Messy Garden

but they are really good ideas if you are a Fb user.

The idea for the Messy Garden is for people to share their best sustainable gardening tips, so other gardeners can use them in their gardens. People can share and rate the best tips .

This virtual garden is part of a much wider campaign which aims to champion the many benefits a garden can provide to gardeners, local communities and the wider environment. Research suggests that all gardeners should have a messy corner in their gardens in order to make a significant contribution to their ecosystem.

Of course some of us ( ahem) have tidy corners in their messy gardens!

Every tip on the Fb app provides keen gardeners with the opportunity to get the most out of their plot. If you are on Facebook it would be great if you would take the time out to share your best/favourite gardening tip with the rest of the world!  They are just trying to get people to share their tips.

Also if you know of anyone you think would like to share a tip, please do let them know for me.

Thanks.

(I was directed to this app by the creator for University of Leeds        - I think it is a great idea and am happy to share the link but have received no inducement to do so)

  1. Haha.....some of us do indeed have 'tidy' corners in messy gardens!!

It's the way I love it, share and share alike with wildlife and nature.

Although I'm not implying that you have to share ALL your crops with your new Deer friend!
