Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Sunshine and twiggery

Its been a lovely day here today,

My day started well, with a meeting in my "office" ...a walk around the wood with a prospective client (grin)

I then spent a pleasant hour walking around Ledbury taking photos and thinking up clues for a trail I have been commisioned to write.....so got to have a wander around a historic market town, in the sunshine and get paid for it...my kind of work...!

Then had lunch out in pub with Cm.

This afternoon I have been making twig hearts and stars and writing a lesson plan and tutorial sheet on how to make them, for a class I am teaching next week.
Also let the hens out to have a wander in the sunshine, I stayed close by and kept an eye open for the Fox. The feathery ladies seemed very pleased to be out of the runs!

I have havent had any tme to catch up on blogs but have just seen you have had a fox attack :o( Fox will be doing what he needs to do but its a very frustrating & worrying thing as a hen keeper as you sadly know ;o(
Hope he finds somewhere else to go,is it worth putting some dog food out somewhere in your wood?? I read in a book last night of a man leaving food out lol for the rats so they didnt eat his food!lol!

  3. Love your Valentine hearts!!! What a gorgeous idea!!!

Been thinking of Mr or Mrs Fox and it really does not seem very normal behaviour for a fox to be so aggressive towards humans... they are so skittish they usually run off before you can get near to them..... just wondering if this fox has a behavioural problem of sorts... a little bit crazy if you know what I mean... it certainly does not seem right. So maybe having it culled would be a kindness if that makes any sense???

    Thinking of you!
    Much Love, Jane xxx
