Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Meet the newest member of our cat family.

Meet Gizzie, the newest member of our cat family .






She belongs to Babs at Little Terraced House, who put out a plea for help on her blog a couple of days ago.

Those who follow Little Terraced House will know that things have been very hard for them all, with a sick grandchild the other side of the World, and lots of other issues to contend with. Life has not been kind to them recently.

Babs and I are fellow Master Composters and, although we had only met in real life once before, I could see how desperate she was to re home their beloved cat before they left (at very short notice) to return to Australia .

So after discussing it with Compostman and Compostgirl, we offered to help and now have the care of lovely Gizzie.

Babs and your lovely OH - we will do our very best to look after her well. She is an absolute darling - although the other cats do NOT agree at the moment!

    In my opinion, calicos are the most beautiful and queenly of all cats. I absolutely adore my calico baby! I am so glad you were able to give Gizzie a wonderful place where those who love her can keep up with how she is doing. What a kind thing for you to do!

    I'm so glad it was you that came to the rescue. I was about to step forward as soon as I read the heartfelt plea, but I stopped and thought long and hard about it.

    With our imminent weekends away to set up the new place and having so much to do I felt we could not give her the time she would have needed to settle in and the stability she would have needed to feel at home.

    I'm so glad you managed to take her. I hope your cats will get on with her soon.

    What a beautiful girl - she is so lucky that you have taken her in. I'm sure she will repay you in the years to come with lots of love, and as cats do, just sitting there and being beautiful !!
