Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

5 good things today

1 The latest cuteness from the kittens is..... they have adopted my best crimson velvet cushions on the sofa and have spent ALL day on them asleep in the cute way...and Sid has made me laugh, he played like a mad thing with Compostgirl and a soft ball for ages today and then has spent the day running around the wood like a mad puss, hunting ... and when he is bigger I suspect he will take on Kitty Cat's mantle as Rat Killer Supreme!

2 The blighted spuds which Compostman has dug up are actually looking good!
They were in early and got growing well so we WILL have some to store by the looks of it!

3 Am VERY happy to have new kittens...I have missed cuddling Monty puss soooo much over the last year...Kitty is not a cuddle cat...he is a "sit by you quietly" cat....

4 I have harvested lots of herbs and flowers today for decorations so the study now smells of greenery and floral scents :-)and I have made a corn dolly and some lavender favours.

5 My last batch of Sage has dried beautifully and I have bottled it for use later on, and I have got some Lavender, Rose petals, Basil and Oregano on the go drying now.
