Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Tagged!

I have been awarded a Tree of Happiness :-)) Thank you Eco Gites!

The rules of this award are:

1. Link to the person who gave the award to you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. List six things that make you happy.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog
6. Let the person who awarded you, know when your entry is up.

So... six things that make me happy: They are things for this time of year, if I were to do this in the summer I think I would be putting different things!

1. Working in my polytunnel, during the winter , when it is cold and wet outside and I am warm and dry inside! I love the sound of rain hammering down on the outside when I am inside.

2. Woodlands. I can wander around, sit and look and listen and smell the smells of a woodland for hours and hours.

3. Cats. A cat sitting on my lap, purring away like a steam train, and Compostman sitting next to me , with another cat on HIS lap!

4. A meal of home-produced food, cooked by Compostman (who is an excellent cook!) , with a nice glass ( or several) of good red wine, or beer or home made something. And then a sit on the sofa in front of the woodburner, with a cat or 3 on my lap!

5. My Hens. Their antics make me laugh most days...and sometimes its the only laugh I get....so I treasure their silly clucks and squarks and fights over nothing.....and the chicks especially are SO funny!

6. Doing environmental stuff with children. I LOVE to work with children and see the delight on their faces when they see something they have not seen before, or grow a carrot and pull it out of the ground for the first time!

Now for the blogs. I love reading other people's blogs, so it has been hard to limit it to 6, but here goes!

Hot Belly Mama

The Winds of Change

Being Mrs C

Tea With Willow

The Smallest Smallholding

A Little Slice of Life

I will let you all know you have been tagged by me and if you want to, you can pass it on...but don't worry if you don't want to do it!

  1. Thanks for tagging me Compostwoman - I like the sound of the Tree of Happiness!! I've been neglecting my blog recently ... must get back to it soon ... but I have been enjoying reading all of yours. I especially liked your Hen post - might try the Vermix Liquid for my girls, as I'm never sure if they've eaten the pellets or not!
