Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

A catty problem...

Hmmm since we had Tabitha spayed earlier this week she has taken to pooing on the bathroom carpet....and weeing on any pile of material she finds or can pull down to the floor ( so think towels, dirty clothes, clean folded washing...)

I have asked our Vet if it is a medical problem and the answer is apparently not.....this often happens after a trip to the Vets!

So for now we are having to confine her ( and, unfortunately Sid and Tom also) in the utility room on a tiled floor and keep them shut in overnight, to try to "remind" her to use her litter tray if she wants to "go".

Oh dear...I hope it works! Not only is it not very pleasant to have to deal with poo and wee on the carpet every day BUT we can't have the other cats on the bed with us at night at the moment.....

And to all my lovely blog friends who have been wondering how I am ....I am rather upset with some "stuff" which is happening on a green forum I am a long term member of.....and I am feeling rather frail still from the shingles......AND Compostgirl is being "difficult" again with her ongoing ODD issues... so I have very little energy left at the moment to blog....

Sorry.. and THANK you for your concern....I really DO appreciate it!

I WILL be back..soon....

  1. It seems when something goes wrong everything else goes wrong just to make life more difficult...
I am so sorry to hear about all the problems you are experiencing at the moment, especially when you are feeling rather delicate yourself.
I do believe that after a night or two in the utility room Tabitha will get the hang of her litter tray again and all will be well. Tabitha has obviously lost her way due to what must have been a very traumatic time for her at the vets and she has just lost her way for a little while.
I am also sorry about the other stuff... so to speak.
I do think when you feel low things that are difficult seem so much worse.. Please take good care of yourself and take some time to heal.... and try not to let the other things get you down!! Any chance of getting away for a day or two to recharge and revitalise those worn down batteries.....
    Thinking of you..
    Love Jane xxxx

  2. YES!

I agree..and you are SO right..but it is very hard , when you are at a low ebb anyway..to have to deal with a load of cat crap without getting cross with the poor little puss who made it....

She is such a poppet, and we really do not want to have to re home her, but so far she is STILL doing the "not in the litter tray" stuff...this morning she pulled out a kitchen towel from the sink in the utility room down on the floor...and weed on it rather than use the ( clean, several of them!) litter tray.....

so I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do...

she also jumped into the open boot of my car yesterday and wee'd on a rag in the boot....

I just am rather sick ( literally!)of the stink of cat wee...............
