Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

Busy Monday

I had a busy day today,
I scaled and conquered(!) the Ironing Mountain
and bottled the Damson Vodka. After decanting the pink, yummy, sticky (!) vodka from the damsons, I poured a bottle of sherry into the Kilner jar apparently this makes a lovely fortified, damson-y flavoured sherry in a few months? We will see.....
However I have yet to scale the " putting away all the ironing" peak
nor have I yet sorted out the corner in our bedroon where lurks the piles of material etc for turning into other things...like quilts....

Ho hum...

    Thank you so much for the tip about chard - I'll deal with it tomorrow!
    Perhaps you could now come and deal with my ironing! It tends to get ignored in the summer months, especially during the holidays!

    Certainly sounds like you've had a busy day. The damson vodka sounds delicious. I am quite partial to a damson gin, so the idea of vodka is quite exciting!

    Jean, glad to help re the chard but no thanks to the ironing...there was stuff in MY pile from months ago...

    Mrs C...Damson Vodka is yum!

    as is Blackcurrant Vodka..which is what I got on the go yesterday! ;-)
